Narcoleptic Powerbooks

It is a known fact that people tend to dwell on the negative while they quickly forget the positive. It used to drive me insane when my Powerbook G4 would just simply go to sleep while I was using it, and I must admit I never gave any positive feedback to those who helped me solve the problem. So here it goes: 'operating' a narcoleptic Powerbook is indeed the best - er, should I say, only - solution available for the unlucky owners of one.

Yes, it is just a faulty temperature sensor under the track pad. Yes, it is just a matter of removing the little tiny bastard. And yes, anyone can do it.

The only problem is that the temperature sensor misreads that the computer is overheating hence causing it to go to sleep to prevent any damage to the hard drive. Don't bother taking your PB to an Apple Store as they can't really remove one of its parts and give it back to you. You can take it to a technician if you want, but I personally think that is a waste of money as he probably won't know the problem as well as you will after googling "narcoleptic powerbook". Besides, I felt if anyone was going to open my Mac and be hold accountable for any problems that might come from it, it should be me.

The procedure took place over a year ago and my PB has been fine ever since.

So, in order to bring closure to this whole thing, I've posted my "thank you" comment on the site that helped me most and said a little agnostic prayer of gratitude for my working Mac.
